This webinar series brings together educators, faculty members, and trainers interested in integrating deliberate practice into academic programs. Guests will share how they have introduced deliberate practice into university, master’s, and postgraduate training while balancing skills-based learning with more traditional, theory-driven approaches.

Gunnar Hays Gotaas
Gunnar is a clinical psychologist and Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychology at NTNU, Norway.
He teaches in the professional psychology programme and has developed Skill Training for Psychotherapy, a course for psychology students at an early stage of clinical development. The course focuses on foundational interpersonal skills in psychotherapy through procedural learning, structured practice, and feedback.
Rather than focusing primarily on students’ current level of therapeutic skill, the course helps them learn how to approach their development with precision, structure, feedback, and a supportive attitude towards themselves and their peers. It also introduces deliberate practice as a practical framework for early therapist development before students gain extensive clinical experience.
