About the series
The DP book that we will use in this Deliberate Practice series has a special position in the DP book collection:
The exercises are adapted to psychiatric settings, with case examples drawn from outpatient, inpatient, emergency department, and consultation-liaison settings.
The exercises are suitable for all professionals working in psychiatric settings, including psychiatrists, psychologists, psychotherapists, social workers, and psychiatric nurses.
The exercises focus on common factors such as empathy, goal setting, exploring emotions, thoughts and behaviours, and repairing relational ruptures, as well as particularly challenging situations in psychiatric settings, such as responding to suicidal behaviours and communicating personal limits.
In this sense, the exercises do not adhere to a specific psychotherapeutic theory or method and can therefore be used by professionals working within a range of different theoretical frameworks.
