What is the empirical status for Deliberate Practice in the learning of psychotherapy skills? Irish psychotherapist, lecturer and researcher Daryl Mahon took on the task of doing a scoping review of Deliberate Practice evidence. This resulted in the 2022 article “A scoping review of deliberate practice in the acquisition of therapeutic skills and practices”.

The article is the first of its kind and is considered an important overview over the empirical status for DP in psychotherapy. On this webinar, he is interviewed by Vidar Husby, board member of  International Deliberate Practice Society, after the interview there is time for questions and discussion.

Daryl Mahon has 15 years working across human services as practitioner, manager, researcher and in academia. He has previously held  the role of Assistant Academic Director Human & Social Sciences with a focus on psychotherapy.  Daryl is an active researcher, and has a range of publications, including academic textbooks and journal articles. You can find a compilation of publications Here. One of Daryl's areas of expertise is in psychotherapy outcomes and processes, and deliberate practice.
